When Stress Stops Feeling Temporary, It’s Time for a Reset

Burnout creeps in like a slow leak, draining your energy day by day. It starts with longer work hours, missed breaks, and the emotional weight you carry without realizing it. You tell yourself it’s just a rough week. Maybe you just need more sleep or a weekend to reset.

But then the tiredness never really goes away. Your fuse gets shorter. Things you used to care about feel like a chore. That drive you once had? Gone.

This isn’t just stress—it’s burnout. And it’s time to pay attention.

At CopeWell Psychiatry & Wellness, I provide holistic burnout treatment grounded in
psychiatric care and supported by whole-person wellness strategies. Dr. Udo Chukwuocha helps patients understand the root of their burnout, relieve symptoms, and build sustainable habits that support long-term physical and mental health.

Burnout is a chronic condition caused by prolonged stress and emotional exhaustion. It affects how you think, feel, and function in your daily life.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines burnout as more than just being tired— it’s a state of constant exhaustion, disconnection, and a struggle to function day to day. And while it’s often linked to work, burnout doesn’t stop there. It can seep into parenting, caregiving, school, even your closest relationships—quietly pulling joy and presence from every part of your life.

Research shows that burnout can contribute to serious health conditions, including insomnia, depression, and anxiety. It can even raise your risk of heart disease by around 21%. Burnout often hides in plain sight, mimicking other mental health struggles and making it hard to name. You might feel exhausted even after a full night’s sleep, or start questioning whether you’re just not built for the life you once loved.

For some, burnout is tied to existing challenges like ADHD burnout, where executive dysfunction and feeling overwhelmed make it nearly impossible to recharge without clinical help. Burnout doesn’t mean you’re weak—it means your system is overloaded.

Understanding Burnout and Its Impact

  • A business owner or team lead trying to balance a growing workload with shrinking personal time.

My Approach to Stress Burnout Treatment

Burnout won’t disappear overnight, but healing is possible with the right care. At CopeWell Psychiatry & Wellness, I go deeper than quick fixes or surface-level stress relief. My approach combines medical expertise with whole-person wellness to help you recover and reconnect with the version of yourself you’ve been missing.

Medication Management

Burnout can trigger chemical imbalances that affect sleep, focus, appetite, and mood. I start with a full psychiatric evaluation to see if medication could help get things back on track. Some people feel better with short-term support, while others may need longer care, especially if burnout is tied to depression, anxiety, or ADHD.

Lifestyle Support

Burnout affects more than just work—it impacts personal life, relationships, and sense of self. That’s why I provide lifestyle coaching as part of my care model. I help you create healthier rhythms—better sleep, consistent rest, mindful movement, and boundaries with technology—that protect your energy.

Nutritional Guidance

Your diet influences how you respond to stress. When burnout sets in, your appetite may change, your digestion may slow, and your energy may drop. My nutritional counseling helps patients reconnect with food as a source of support, not stress. I focus on inflammation-reducing foods, blood sugar stability, and gut-brain balance to reinforce the foundation of burnout recovery.

Burnout Symptoms I Commonly See

Not sure if what you’re experiencing is burnout? It may not always be obvious.
Clients often come to us after noticing:

  • Constant fatigue, even after rest
  • Trouble focusing or making decisions
  • Mood swings or increased irritability
  • Loss of motivation or interest in activities
  • Physical issues like headaches or digestive problems
  • Withdrawal from relationships with workers, friends, or loved ones
  • Numbness or emotional detachment from your goals
  • Persistent feeling of being behind in every part of your life

You don’t have to wait until things collapse to seek support. Getting help early improves your chances of meaningful, long-lasting recovery.

FAQ

Can adults be diagnosed with ADHD even if they weren’t diagnosed as kids?

Many people aren’t identified as children, especially if they experience symptoms like disorganization, forgetfulness, or low motivation instead of hyperactivity. A professional evaluation can confirm ADHD and connect you with treatment that helps.

Studies show that heritability is between 22% and 80 %. ADHD often shows up across generations. Other family members may have shared similar challenges, even if they never received an official diagnosis.

Stimulants like Adderall or non-stimulants like atomoxetine (Straterra) may be helpful, but your provider will work with you to determine if medication is appropriate based on your symptoms, health history, and treatment goals.
